WELCOME JADE...SO WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH PRESENCE ORB?
We are an in-venue analytics company that tracks how consumers move around commercial spaces for retailers, hospitality venues, transport networks and more in fifty-four countries!
THAT'S IMPRESSIVE, LET'S TAKE A STEP BACK. WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE PRESENCE ORB?
Initially, I was actually reselling their software to organizations from multiple sectors as a business management consultant four years ago. A friend who works for a large partner of Microsoft thought I would be interested in the business intelligence that Presence Orb can provide so he introduced me to Tom, the founder and Ceo of Presence Orb. I then became one of the first team members to come on board.
PERSONALLY, WHAT EXCITES YOU THE MOST ABOUT WORKING IN A STARTUP ORGANIZATION?
I'd say the nimbleness of the organization and how quickly you can move, iterate and develop to suit a particular need. We develop specifically around existing client requirements; we're trying to get as close a product market fit as possible so that we grow with tools that were actually created by the end users and developed around their needs and feedback.
Also, the fact that we're being considered trusted advisers by some massive international brands!
ON THE FLIP SIDE, WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART?
Having to be creative with our resource, despite our reach we are very much a lean startup. Having five employees, we've had to be really creative in the way that we develop the business in terms of scalability.
Despite that, we just launched our second office in San Diego, California as we're focusing on developing operations in North America with the team and resource available there.
IF YOU HAD ADVICE FOR SOMEBODY THINKING ABOUT STARTING THEIR OWN BUSINESS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Do it; so long as you know your idea is viable. Check that you're actually solving a problem and that you've not come up with the best idea ever that nobody wants.
Make sure there is a gap in the market for the product/services that you are providing. There are quite a few markets that are over-saturated, some of which are big enough to warrant more competitors and some that do not.
So long as you have the viability down the only issue you need to worry about is invisibility. Make sure you have a killer strategy to let people know about your solution to their problem.
......AND FINALLY, HOW HAS WORKING AT LAUNCH22 HELPED YOU?
It's been a very strong change for us as an organization. We've been at our London office in Launch22 which sits three of us for a month. Our previous office in the East end had more of a corporate and mature startup kind of vibe which really didn't suit us as an organization.
Being in a creative hub such as Launch22 has really ignited our motivation and boosted our team spirit. It's encouraging to be around people that are also working in a fast-paced environment, striving to create something; the feeling is contagious!
